What happens when lawyers know they can get away with anything? Here's a short but telling October 5, 2007, New York Law Journal artlcle by Anthony Lin - Suspended NY Lawyer Charged With Selling Old Man's House Out From Under Him - The Queens District Attorney's Office has announced criminal charges against a suspended lawyer who allegedly helped sell an elderly man's house out from under him. Attorney N. Stephen Sukhdeo is facing larceny and forgery charges for participating in a scheme with real estate broker Mohammed Keita.
According to the prosecutor's office, the two men forged the signature of one of Mr. Sukhdeo's clients in order to sell his house while he was hospitalized with a stroke. The house was first sold to a company owned by Mr. Sukhdeo's brother and then "flipped" to Mr. Keita's daughter. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said the scheme netted its participants hundreds of thousands of dollars. Messrs. Sukhdeo and Keita each face up to 15 years in prison.
Lawyers have a license to steal and they do it without a gun, this is yet another example. The bottom line is it make good headlines but what will really happen? Will this lawyers go to jail for 10 years? That would send a message to his fellow brethen.

Lawyers learn bad lessons just as hardened criminals learn how to work the legal system so to get away with crimes.
ReplyDeleteLawyers are further encouraged to break the law when illegal deeds go uncorrected by the system, prosecutors, judges, fellow attorneys and those in charge of ethics.
Bad lessons reap bad results; just look at our legal system.

ReplyDeleteGood lord what is wrong with you people??? All lawyers do not steal. This suspended lawyer participated in this theft with a real estate broker. He will now lose his license to practice and he will face jail time just like the real estate broker.
ReplyDeleteOf course all lawyers don't steal! But the previous commentor has to agree that there has been an air that you can get away with a lot if you know the right people. So, what's wrong with exposing corrupt lawyers and judges so that honor and respect can come back to the system of law....all in fairness to the good lawyers and judges who too can't speak up right now.
ReplyDeleteHe should be punished for what he did as an example to others that are that are doing the same, God is a righteous judge and he will punish him for taking advantage of the elderly; (you can run from man but you can't hide from God. ReplyDeleteIn response to this - what would you say if I tell you that this same lawyer got married to a Pastor and some how managed to evade prison time. Anything is possible in Richmond Hill..
