La. judge arrested in alleged bond scheme
United Press International - April 25, 2009
NEW ORLEANS, April 25 (UPI) -- A Louisiana judge has been arrested on corruption charges alleging he accepted bribes to let detainees go free on bond, federal officials say. State District Judge Wayne Cresap of St. Bernard Parish, La., was being held in custody late Friday after being arrested as part of an ongoing corruption investigation by the FBI and U.S. attorney's office, the (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported. The U.S. Attorney's office issued a news release alleging the judge "entered into an illegal agreement with unnamed lawyers in which Cresap accepted money to convert secured bonds to unsecured personal surety bonds, thereby allowing the releases of charged individuals on signatures, and without collateral security." The prosecutor said the bond arrangement "deprived citizens of (Cresap's) honest services in the course of his officials duties." The Times-Picayune said Cresap, 62, of Poydras, La., has held his current position in Louisiana's 34th Judicial District since October 1999, when he defeated Gregory Noto in a runoff election to fill the term of Judge Melvyn Perez, who had died in office.

St. Bernard Parish Judge Arrested on Federal Corruption Charges
NEW ORLEANS, LA—WAYNE G. CRESAP, an elected judge of the 34th Judicial District Court for the Parish of St. Bernard, was arrested this afternoon by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, pursuant to a warrant of arrest and complaint charging him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud by depriving citizens of his honest services in the course of his official duties, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten and Special Agent in Charge David Welker of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, New Orleans Division. After his arrest, CRESAP appeared before a United States District Court Judge and presently remains in federal custody pending a bail hearing at a later date. According to allegations contained in the affidavit in support of the complaint (attached), CRESAP entered into a illegal agreement with unnamed lawyers, in which CRESAP accepted money to convert secured bonds to unsecured personal surety bonds, thereby allowing the releases of charged individuals on signatures, and without collateral security. If indicted and convicted of the conspiracy offense as charged, CRESAP faces a maximum prison term of five (5) years, a $250,000 fine, as well as possible restitution and supervised release. CRESAP is presently on a leave of absence from the Court and is therefore not currently sitting on the bench or ruling on judicial matters. No further details are available for release at this time. FBI Special Agent in Charge Welker and U. S. Attorney Letten commend the hard work, commitment and partnership of the Special Agents, prosecutors and others who have assisted with this and related corruption investigations, and confirm that this investigation continues. The FBI and U. S. Attorney extend their gratitude for the substantial assistance and information provided by the New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission. The investigation is being handled by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the New Orleans Division. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Brian Marcelle and Richard Pickens.
Any judge from the Gulf is a light weight compared to some of the frauds going on in New York where the real money is. On this blog, in the upper left SEARCH box, enter: "Ramos."
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is "40 Million Dollar Judge Silent on Judicial Pay Raise." Followed closely by, "NYSE Grass Langone Judge Gets $20 Million Sweetheart Deal."
THIS IS HOW PAYBACK IS DONE IN NY. WE DON'T FOOL AROUND WITH CHUMP CHANGE !!!

ReplyDeleteInteresting article. But what happened to the article on the alleged Family Court crises that was posted yesterday and abruptly taken down after commenting on how Family Court scams is one of the worse part of the State Court System in New York that has not been addressed by any Chief Judge or Governor in years? Nor State Public Integrity either?
So what happened to that article so folks all around the State can comment before Lippman and crew start making more Judges and giving raises to allegedly "fix" a problem without actually addressing what parts of the real problems are? The Administrator of the blog should address why this article was promptly removed.
Thank you.

Happy to see that the FBI is doing something, when is NY's turn? Or is NY a rest stop for FBI? Wonder if they feel bad taking taxpayer dollars and doing nothing?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see the likes of the most dishonorable form of pond scum gets caught. The FBI and Jim Letten did a great job going after Wayne Cresap. He handled my divorce, and it's just good to know that karma is real. Now if the feds would go after Judge Fernandez for hearing a flagerant lawsuit for his buddies and Jack "O" Stephens for drug running, murder and poking the milkman's wife.
ReplyDeleteThe previous blog is so very correct. Wayne Cresap is a shameful dirt bag with no honor or decency. As for Sheriff Jack "Off" Stephens. He di has an adulterous affair with the Milkman's slutty wife. Jack "off" Stephens was deeply involved with the Randazzo murder wherein two goons working for the St. Bernard DA whacked the girl too hard in the head near the marina. Then Jack "off" hired someone to murder Deputy Raul Valecello in front of what was "Nye's Bar" on Judge Perez Dr. It's all true. I'm jsut waiting for Karma to catch up with them and their dastardly deeds. Taht will e entertaining to say the least. Oh yea, Jack controls most of the drug running in duh Parish too.
ReplyDeleteJudge Evan Crook in the Burlington County Family court is a crook! Research his background. Check out his wife Diana Crook who got a teaching job in Mt. Laurel, NJ without any teaching credentials. He falsifies all the court orders. Makes up his own laws. He doesn't abide by the law and is biased! FBI where are you to check out who paid his taxes in Ocean City, NJ? He hired the same firm when he was the Burlington County Solicitor. Judge Crook your gonna get arrested if you don't step down from the bench NOW!
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with Judge Crook in Burlington County New Jersey. He said in his orders he cuts copies and pasted text to the Order! He falsified my child support Order and claims I never provided the attachments to the Motion filing! Claims in his Orders I own a rental property. My ex-wife said there would be irrepable harm if I was incarcerated and he said completely opposite in his falsified Order. Ya where is the State Police and FBI to investigate this crook. I also heard he is a member of a law firm while a sitting judge!!! Where is justice in this society of these corrupt judges?
