WHITE PLAINS, NY - A Westchester County lawyer pleaded guilty today to charges that he swindled more than $40,000 from his law firm and cheated on his taxes. As part of the plea deal, Neil Silberblatt of Chappaqua will serve no jail time and receive a conditional discharge if he repays all of the money he stole by Nov. 13, the day he is to be sentenced. He must also get a favorable report from the county Department of Probation. If he fails to meet both conditions, acting state Supreme Court Justice William Wetzel said, Silberblatt would receive five years' probation. Silberblatt, who was a lawyer for Steinberg & Cavaliere in White lains, pleaded guilty to the entire indictment against him, which included felony charges of third-degree grand larceny and filing a false tax return. The grand larceny charge is punishable by up to seven years in state prison. Assistant District Attorney Brian Conway said Silberblatt stole $40,126 worth of clients' checks from Aug. 10, 2007, to June 19, 2008. He also failed to report $2,577 to the state Department of Taxation and Finance. Silberblatt, 51, was arrested Oct. 29 and remains free on bail. He no longer works for Steinberg & Cavaliere, according to a receptionist at the firm. Silberblatt made news when he defended a gym teacher accused of assaulting a Tuckahoe High School senior two weeks before the boy committed suicide in 2003 by jumping in front of a train. The boy's parents had sued the district, faulting the teacher and the superintendent for how they treated their son in the weeks before his death. They dropped the lawsuit in 2004.
This lawyer didn't learn the most important thing about attorney stealing -- to spread the ill gotten gains around.
ReplyDeletehow about pulling his license?
ReplyDeleteAgain educate urself thier is NO Attorney or Lawyer license!! No such thing! In all states! Only BAR cards i.e admission to practice law in the courts!! So they get to do whatever, as long as they be cool and dont make waves about f'n the people!
ReplyDeleteAnd how long will it be before Neil gets his BAR card back? How much does that cost him and who does he pay?
ReplyDeletethat's it, they are all a part of the BAR ASSOCIATION, that seems to be the issue
ReplyDeleteThis guy was a punk. He also had the worst hairdo you have ever seen. Looked like a helmet. Everyone in the White Plains courthouse used to laugh at him and his panic attacks.
ReplyDeleteTotal scumbag. Still is.
ReplyDeleteHe's calling himself a poet now, and is lining up the arts nonprofits over in Connecticut. Perhaps a new form of misappropriation figures in his career plans.
ReplyDeleteHis poetry is pretty good. Maybe he's found a new calling.
ReplyDeleteHis poetry is as pompous as he is. At a 2012 reading, he insisted, despite protests, upon a "pass the hat." (Wonder what happened to that collection?) He is a hypocrite and anyone who takes his lies and poetry seriously is in for a let-down.

ReplyDeleteThe poetry event conducted on 11/16/2012 at First Congregational Church in New Milford, CT raised more than $300 and tons of food and clothing for the food pantry / homeless shelter(s) in New Milford.
All of the money, food & clothing raised at that event was turned over to the New Milford Dep't of Social Services (which, I presume, the blogger never bothered to contact).
As a result of event and the generosity of those who participated/attended, there is now a place ("Tall Paul's Closet" at St. John's Episcopal Church in New Milford) where the poor and homeless in that community can obtain free clothing.
I suspect that the folks who can now find good food and warm clothing as a result of that event do not share the hateful views espoused by the 11/25 blogger.
Geez, give this guy a break. He did his time (oh wait, he didn't). But he's trying to do something good for the hungry and homeless. I guess he realized he was one step away himself. Or he's doing good deeds to cover up his current bad deeds..
ReplyDeleteHe continues to be a liar and manipulator. Passing bad checks (talk to Day's Inn, Danbury). New scam is getting older women to house and support him.
ReplyDeleteWith so much known about him, rather than keep a low profile his narcissism prevails.
ReplyDeleteHow come your so interested in what this guy does? He do something to you that you keep track of everything he do now?
ReplyDeleteWill the person who is posting these anonymous attacks kindly post his/her name, or is he/she too craven to do so.
ReplyDeleteIt takes no courage to post libelous attacks anonymously.
It isn't libel if it's true.
ReplyDeleteThe people in Jersey are really unhappy.
ReplyDeleteLiving in New Milford now, is he? Anyone have an address?
ReplyDeleteMr. Silberblatt has, indeed, landed in New Milford and claims to be its new Poet Laureat. He has scheduled a reading to benefit the local soup kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Poet Laureate.
ReplyDeleteAddress unknown. Host unknown.
It took you 43 days to figure out how to spell Laureate? Instead of following this guy's every move why don't you invest some money and time in a dictionary (a big book that will give you the definition of... oh wait, sorry, the MEANING of thousands of words, and a Thesaurus (a big book of synonyms and antonyms; if you don't know the meaning of synonyms and antonyms, see the first suggestion.)and try your hand at writing. Maybe one day you will make Poet LAUR-EAT, or win a PULL-ITS-ER. By the way, you make organizing an event to help the poorest among us sound like a BAD thing. What is WRONG with you?
ReplyDeleteHey, con man, abuser, thief and felon, you need some instruction on the use of parentheses!
ReplyDeleteYou do like defending yourself here don't you?
Let he who is without...
IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME THIS DEADBEAT'S ADDRESS I'D APPRECIATE IT. I HAVE A SUMMONS AND COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE TO SERVE.
ReplyDeleteMs. Walter - Haven't you spilled enough ink and wasted anough paper on your crusade?
ReplyDeleteongoing predatory behavior needs to be watched.
DeleteExactly. The herd needs protecting from wolves in sheep's clothing.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that this guy is turning out to be quite a nuisance in the Town of New Milford but its residents are on to him. Do a search on "morey" and "silberblatt" to find a letter that the former wrote about the latter. Anyone know where he's squatting?
ReplyDeleteYes, quite the "nuisance". He had the audacity to support the food pantry/soup kitchen in New Milford. http://www.newmilfordspectrum.com/news/article/Suggests-Loaves-critic-should-volunteer-4480476.php
ReplyDeleteYou can bet there is fraud behind his support of the food pantry.
Delete...fraud and likely he's mooching off a supporter of the food service. He's not registered to vote in New Milford. No car in his name. No records at all showing residency in New Milford. This guy is slick. But it'll all catch up to him. BTW, there's not one reader here who doesn't know that all posts that come to this a**hole's defense are from him.
ReplyDeleteNothing like agreeing with yourself.
ReplyDeleteI hope he's not the Treasurer of his "poetry group."
ReplyDeleteKarma will catch up to Mr. Silberblatt. Impostor.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know this guy's latest scam?
ReplyDeleteIf anyone needs to serve process on this guy, here's where to find him on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.: St. Peter's Masonic Lodge in New Milford, CT.
ReplyDeleteYep, this Saturday, November 9 from 6 to 9 pm, I will be at St. Peter's Masonic Lodge, 11 Aspetuck Avenue, New Milford, CT (directly opposite New Milford Historical Society).
ReplyDeleteI will be there with many other fine poets, writers & musicians who will be offering their support for - and trying to raise money for - Loaves & Fishes, the soup kitchen & food pantry in New Milford.
That not-for-profit organization prepares & serves free hot nutritious meals seven days a week, 365 days a year to those in need in the New Milford community.
Please join us on Saturday. Admission is $15 @ person / $25 @ couple. All of the proceeds (every nickel) will go to Loaves & Fishes. Donations are fully tax deductible. If you can't join, please support the good work done by Loaves & Fishes and food pantries in your community.
Unless, of course, you prefer to stay at home & post obnoxious anonymous messages on blog sites such as this.
If you're really interested in helping people - other than by posting anonymous screeds online -here is the website for Loaves & Fishes, which can direct you as to where & how to help those in need. You can also support the food kitchen in your community.

This idiot is living in Chatham Massachusetts on cape cod. He scams the local churches. Scum bag
ReplyDeleteL. - This is truly beneath you. In fact, our most recent Voices of Poetry event on November 9 - which, sadly, you did not attend - raised more than $1,200 for Loaves & Fishes, the soup kitchen & food pantry in New Milford, CT. No scam there (or at any of our other events).
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to help others, try supporting a good cause like that. It is a lot more productive & satisfying than posting venomous & insulting screeds online (behind the veil of anonymity). Of course, if you did that or revealed your identity, you would be acting courageously. And courage is not exactly your strong suit.
Hope that, in 2014, you pick up a more productive hobby. You are just demeaning yourself.
You all just missed him at the West Barnstable Massachusetts poetry reading
ReplyDeleteLooks like he's now trying to raise money for a poetry reading in NY - $1,500 "rental" fee?
ReplyDeleteVoices of Poetry at Judson Memorial Hall, it's on go fund me
This creep continues to live off women, and then cheat on them. He is a con in every sense of the word, and should have gone to jail
ReplyDeleteWhen he stole money from law clients. Pompous, and self righteous . Cape Codders beware!
Total scumbag who takes advantage of people with disabilities for his own gain. He is now in cape cod trying to scam non profits

ReplyDeleteI would NOT be friends with NEIL
He is pathological liar. Who preys on single innocent naive woman. He is extremely manupilituve to get what he wants. His uses his crockpot poetry sessions as a front of gaining money from innocent people. Do not give this man money or trust him with anything he says. He should be in jail. Karma is a bitch and it's coming for you.
This creep was recently iinterviwed on a local radio station, and lied to the interviewer about why he “left the law profession”. He had the gall to say he was “burnt out, Not the fact he was disbarred in two states for stealing client’s money, and not paying income tax. The
ReplyDeleteLies continue!,
I heard he is dying of cancer. Anybody know if this is true?
ReplyDeleteHe has claimed to be dying for some time. Very publicly. He is also still stealing money--from arts organizations now.
