ALBANY, NY - Andrew Cuomo begins his tough uphill climb Saturday to prove that a governor in New York matters. It hasn't for a while. The special-interest-controlled Legislature chewed up and spat out the last three governors, leaving the Empire State in worse and worse shape. Each governor had a completely different style. Each ultimately learned the same message: The Legislature does only what the Legislature wants to do. George Pataki's laissez-faire approach, and his shifting political ideology after his first two years, made him less a leader - and more an accessory to the crime. Then hard-charging Eliot Spitzer promised everything wrong with Albany would change on Day 1. In the end, the self-professed steamroller was the one who got rolled, resigning after less than 15 months amid a hooker scandal. His former No. 2, David Paterson, was a genial former state senator whom his ex-colleagues never took seriously, and rightly so because his scandals and ineptitude overshadowed any nominal achievements. Now there is Cuomo, the son of the former three-term Gov. Mario Cuomo, who is remembered more for running an ethical administration than for any major accomplishments. Andrew Cuomo says he's learned from history. Let's hope.
The to-do list is long: fixing the state's broken economy, stemming the upstate exodus - and restoring faith in government are just the start. "Where we are now, this state government has nothing to do with the state government of 20 years ago, 25 years ago," Cuomo told the Daily News Editorial Board in October. "The power migrated from the governor, at large, to the Legislature. And the power migrated from the business community to the public sector unions in Albany." In order for New York to be saved, Cuomo said, "you have to correct both." He looks back at Nelson Rockefeller and Hugh Carey as governors who wielded their power well, along with Mario Cuomo. "My father sometimes was a very powerful governor," he insisted. In dealing with a hostile Legislature that has made life hell for many a governor, Cuomo ultimately knows that public empowerment is the key to maximizing his clout. "You can be their best friend, or their worst enemy," Cuomo said. He'd better be right - nothing less than New York's future is at stake. klovett@nydailynews.com

Andrew must get rid of Shelly Silver and he knows it.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of Shelly and his boyhood buddy Jonathan Lippman and you have a good old New York 2 for 1 bargain.
To the above comment @ 6:47 am.....Andrew's had his head way up their arses...it's time to come out and do the right thing!!
ReplyDeleteThe quality of this Cuomo puff piece is revealed in the quote, "Cuomo, the son of the former three-term Gov. Mario Cuomo, who is remembered more for running an ethical administration than for any major accomplishments," which is true only in its second part of no major accomplishments. But, Mario appointed Kaye Chief Justice and they created and filled the corrupt mechanisms in our courts.
ReplyDeleteThe puff piece continues, "The special-interest-controlled Legislature chewed up and spat out the last three governors" while forgetting to report Andrew Cuomo transition and advisory teams are more than half lobbyists or lobbying entities.

So, Cuomo this means that you are opening an investigation against the allegations that your friend Patrick Lupinetti has used his position to protect his wife "the pimp of orange county" Bernadette E. Lupinetti, Esq. from Goshen New York, from been investigated and charged with child sexual trafficking, grand larceny, racketerring, perjury, case rigging for the sexual exploitation of children, impersonating a parent to kidnapped their children, working in conjuction with Goshen New York CPS to cover up sexual crimes against children and falsified indicated reports against residents and non residents of the State of New York and County of Orange, partaken in the tampering and forging of court orders to violated state and federal laws to kidanpped children for child porn and prostitution, paying off forensic experts in child custody cases to kidnap children to be sexually abuse, physically and mentally abuse? Are you going to have this pair brougth back to New York from California to face charges for sexual crimes against children?
ReplyDeleteCuomo was instrumental in causing the US economy to crash and burn.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how long it takes him to get NY to implode.
That man is so full of it that his eyes would be brown if they were actually blue.
ReplyDeleteI sent him a complaint alleging criminal misconduct on Suffolk DA Tom Spota. After a few months passed I called his office asking for a report. I was told they never got it. I then asked to fax it over and receive a confirmation that they received it.
Everyone else got it that I sent it to, but not Andrew.
Andrew finally responds and advises me he has no jurisdiction in this matter. He refers me to take it up with Westchester DA. She, in turn, refers me to Spota and the trial judge. I write back to her and ask her if she is smoking 'crack.'
DA DiFiore, to her credit finally responds and tells me that the basis of my complaint, i.e., Spota had evidence of a A2 felony in her jurisdiction and didn't share it with her office is confirmed.
when I was at the SIC, all they were interested in is what Cuomo did or didn't do regarding my complaint. At that time Spitzer was the governor, and Cuomo was the guy that would be running against him. As soon as Spitzer resignd, the SIC jumped on Cuomo's band wagon.
It was rumored that Spitzer wanted to eliminate the SIC, but had to resign before he could do so. Gov.Paterson took care of that.
Andrew Cuomo is full of --IT. He is the problem, not the solution to the problem.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ELLIE
