NEW YORK - The former head of New York's Liberal Party has been charged with receiving more than $800,000 in illegal fees linked to state pension fund investments. The charges were announced Wednesday by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who is investigating allegations of pay-to-play corruption under former state Comptroller Alan Hevesi. Cuomo says the Liberal Party's former chairman Raymond Harding got the fees as a reward for helping the Hevesi's son Andrew obtain a seat in the state Assembly. Cuomo says there is no evidence that the younger Hevesi knew of the arrangement. Harding's lawyer says he did nothing wrong. The attorney general also confirmed that Barrett Wissman, a Dallas businessman and hedge fund manager, pleaded guilty March 31 to securities fraud charges. Prosecutors say Wissman helped two top Hevesi aides sell access to the $150 billion pension fund to investment firms.

It concerns me that it appears no one wants to do anything about this type of crime. Or are the people in charge looking the other way for compensation? This is the worst type of corruption.
It's not like people aren't trying to have all the corruption and misconduct that goes on in the state addressed. Many people know of the local publication in Westchester, The Westchester Guardian, that publishes articles and letters from people who have been victimized by the courts, law enforcement, politicians, etc.
It is impossible to get any paper in the county to write about any of this, and many have tried.
Then this past Tuesday, Phil Reisman wrote an article in the Journal News attacking the Guardian and their attempts to expose the corruption and misconduct. (http://www.lohud.com/article/20090414/NEWS01/904140338/1010/COLUMNIST08)
Unbelievable. What has happened to the newspapers in this country?
Exactly! NOT MUCH AT ALL for Investigative Journalism and the Courts appear to have been a "Hands Off" "taboo" for way too long! the Entrenched Interests appear to have Embedded themselves with the Newspapers for years! Part of the problem!
The media cannot keep protecting the courts, because people are disgusted with all government and ready to protest in any manner that will correct the corruption...it will make the 60's appear like a Disney World ride! Everyone I know wants at the very least to have the judicial system be as free from the stink as possible...even though it is probably the most corrupt of all.
One reason the papers are failing is because people know they are not telling us the truth or everything they know about our governments...and thus they choose not to buy the print media and just periodically glance at the internet reports!
The media needs to get a grip before they are all unemployed.
