Former Chicago lawyer, Donna Guerin, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison by U.S. Federal Judge William H. Pauley, III, and ordered to pay $190 million in restitution in what prosecutors have called the largest tax fraud in U.S. history.
Guerin was a partner in a Texas law firm, Jenkens & Gilchrist from 1994 through 2004 and the illegal tax shelters involved over 500 prominent clients including Lamar Hunt and relatives of Armand Hammer. The so-called mastermind of the operation, Illinois attorney Paul M. Daugerdas is scheduled to be retried September 9th.
