Corruption Jurors Say No Jail for Age-Experienced Criminals

Jurors from Joe Bruno corruption trial say former Senate majority leader does not belong in jail
The New York Daily News by GLENN BLAIN - December 26, 2009

ALBANY, NY - The leader of the jury that convicted ex-Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno on corruption charges says the Republican kingpin doesn't belong in jail. "I would hate to see an 80-year-old man go to prison," jury forewoman Patricia Hurley-Dyer told the Daily News. "I would be in favor of a hefty fine," said Hurley-Dyer, a 37-year-old high school teacher. Two other jurors also expressed doubt about sending Bruno to jail. "He's done a lot of good for the community," said juror James Walker, 44, of upstate Granville, who also favors a fine over a prison sentence. Juror Patricia Spencer-Cisek, 48, said she's undecided about Bruno's punishment. "I think that's hard to answer because I don't know how many other people are doing the same thing," Spencer-Cisek said. "I'm glad I don't have to make that decision." Bruno was convicted Dec. 7 on two counts of depriving the public of "honest services." He was cleared on five other counts and deadlocked on an eighth. Prosecutors charged he used his position to reap $3.2 million in bogus consulting fees and hiding his conflicts of interest. U.S. Attorney Andrew Baxter said last week prosecutors will likely seek at least some jail time for Bruno. Bruno, who presided over the state Senate for 14 years before retiring last year, faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of the two counts when sentenced on March 26. He has vowed to appeal. Bruno spokesman Kris Thompson declined to comment on the jurors' statements. gblain@nydailynews.com

Why are we listening to jurors on something that's not under their authority? God forbid one of the jurors' relatives becomes a victim by an 80-year-old...

So I guess these idiot jurors would want Bernie Madoff to just pay a hefty fine (with the stolen money) and return to his homes in New York and Florida as punishment. These jurors are fools, and they give all jurors a bad name. The judge didn't ask your stupid opinion about sentencing and there's no law to mumble to reporters if the call you.

he doesn't know how many are doing the same thing.....
hello juror, that is the point
they are all doing it
to benefit themselves
many are harming others for those creep fees they are paying out, on the taxpayers, the taxpayers children and grandchildren
getting the picture.......
Joe in Jail until he turns them all in and changes the Senate,

Will he miss to much of that lobbying money he is making.
They are going to throw Astor in jail the put Maddoff in jail if he was a drug lord they would throw him in jail.
What is Bruno above the law

Bruno here is a hint...save your money on the appeal, instead do a plea-deal, you see we cannot get rid of the Senate Scum, they have been in too long and have to many in the Friends and Felony Plan.......
so in your plea-deal, change the Senate Rules and send the scum to jail...then we can hail you as Bruno The Bushwacker.....
or Joe joins Justice...
turn them in...........

This is a phony, planted article whose only job is to influence the judge in the punishment phase of this case. The jurors opinion are irrelevant. The jurors job was done when they handed in the verdict sheet. A jurors job is to establish the facts of the case based evidence adduced at the trial. What the law is and the interpretation of the law and the appropriate punishment based on guilty verdicts are neither for the jury or subject to influence based jury opinions. Furthermore, if one takes the published statements as factual, I found you guilty of a crime but your crime did me and the community good, to detriment of other parts of the state, therefore you, Bruno, should do no jail time. Yeah right! We should all be adjudged in this glorious manner.

the jurors job was done when they handed in that sheet, well they could always have the admin judge change it! As is the case in some districts!

I have alsways maintained that jurors are very scary. The mix in this pool has many unlearned, inexperienced and not politically interested individuals.
I have seen and been present at many jury trials and this conglomeration usually appears to be spaced out, disinterested and perplexed by the laws that should guide them.
Reasonable doubt is questionable for most of them.
The courts in America will have you believe the opposite of what I tell you, but behind the scenes they state the same fear!
Juries are often making subjective determinations and ignoring the charge and laws, as I have sat next to the jury room during deliberations as part of my job...and the comments and statements coming from these groups are...wild. "I am going bowling tonite, so we have to decide in the next few minutes, besides I hate when women cry on the stand...forget about her testimony'! Laughter and concurrence by others, relative to the crying and speedy decision.
This is one true comment by a jury deliberating on a Friday....when the entire panel was posed to depart before 5pm ....WITH THE BEST VERDICT THEY COULD ESTABLISH IN THE HOUR THEY HAD BEFORE THAT 5PM!
Juries are as scary as the justice system, where they all are pretending to exact justice...so be careful if you ever need to have a trial..juries think like they are at home, judging their families....dead wrong but don't punish them too harshly!

the jurors could have always been persuaded before they even entered the jury box, like friends with a doctor who med mal the plantiff, almost killed them many years earlier, so of course they would enter with a biased opinion, they have demented knowledge before they even entered the courtroom!
and why didn't the judge call the trial a mistrial, when the plaintiff stated names that would have made it a conflict of interest and more?

that is the fourth case legal malpracticed and now proves stalking with intent to harm........
hey Maziarz do you know anything about it?

Anonymous said...

I hope it isn't my Senator providing false information to these lawyers and judges, so they ditch cases and harm the innocents

Anonymous said...

Well I agree but I dream the post should secure more info then it has.

Joe in Jail, Senators are not above and beyond the law, some become psychotic when given free money to use how they deem.....
turn them in Joe!

some Senators think they rule our courts, what do they care if a judge is put in jail or looses their job........
they don't and they will not be visiting them in that jail cell, they will act like they did nothing.........
tag team their victims- get a good laywer to work the legal end and use their influences on the judges..............
