Judge in 'Double' Trouble

Judge in 'double' trouble
The New York Post by MELISSA KLEIN  -  April 17, 2011

There may be another ethical breach in Judge Luis Gonzalez's court. The presiding justice of the Appellate Division's First Department, already under investigation by a state oversight panel, has employed an executive assistant who may be doing double duty. Gonzalez hired Susan Hernandez-Roura in May 2010 as a lawyer earning $99,599, later promoting her to his top assistant at a salary of $126,000. Hernandez-Roura practiced law downtown before joining the court, and a Post reporter who recently called the firm was told she was available for a consultation. State rules say a lawyer employed full-time by the court system cannot, with few exceptions, practice law. The Post has revealed that Gonzalez claimed a Brooklyn home as a primary residence on mortgage documents, while insisting he lived in the Bronx.

Anyone know why longtime Albany insider attorney Stephen Coffey is no longer Vice Chair at the CJC since March of this year, 2011?

"Stephen R. Coffey, Esq., served on the Commission from April 1995 through March 2011. He served as Vice Chair of the Commission from 2008-2011. Mr. Coffey is a graduate of Siena College and the Albany Law School at Union University. He is a partner in the law firm of O’Connell and Aronowitz in Albany. He was an Assistant District Attorney in Albany County from 1971-75, serving as Chief Felony Prosecutor in 1974-75. He has also been appointed as a Special Prosecutor in Fulton and Albany Counties. Mr. Coffey is a member of the New York State Bar Association, where he serves on the Criminal Justice Section Executive Committee and lectures on Criminal and Civil Trial Practice, the Albany County Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Defenders Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America."

Coffey has been former Senator Joe Bruno's guy on the CJC since 1995. Bruno was convicted on federal corruption charges now on appeal.

"Mr. Coffey is a partner in the law firm of O’Connell & Aronowitz in Albany. He was appointed to the Commission in 1995 by former Senate President Pro Tem
Joseph L. Bruno, and re-appointed in 1999, 2003 and 2007."

Now Coffey is representing Joe Bruno's daughter according to the Times Union in Albany where Bruno's daughter had cushy job at SUNY Research Foundation for years. Prior stories of the Feds examining this position have surfaced as well.

Coffey previously represented a Hudson Police Officer on Appeal on bribery and corruption charges for in part allegedly blowing the cover of fbi informant during drug investigation in columbia county.

"Former Hudson Police Chief James J. Dolan Jr. should get a new trial because the jury heard testimony it shouldn't have about crimes he allegedly committed in the past, Dolan's lawyer argued Friday.

That testimony - sensational accounts of drug use by Dolan and other police officers, friends and relatives - was offered by the prosecution to demonstrate the chief had more reason to keep the Columbia County Sheriff's Department out of the city's drug investigations than merely to protect his turf.

However, Dolan's attorney, Stephen R. Coffey, argued to a five- judge panel of the Appellate Division of the state Supreme … "

How is the swordsman still able to sit on the bench and judge other peoples cases meanwhile he has proven time and again incapable of adhearing to the rule of law.

don't quote me but SUNY was paid to study people who applied but did not qualify for NYS Medicaid, hence they had access to all kinds of personnel information and since NYS Medicaid does not send any type of statements you could bill anything to Medicaid and nothing would ever be denied because no person ever gets any paperwork from Medicaid saying what they paid for anything......who cares, the Federal Gov't pays 50% of it back anyways!

This "judge" needs to step down immediately.
