Once again, The New York Daily News takes the lead in exposing the rampant corruption in our New York courts. We cheer the NY Daily News for their Saturday, May 12, 2007 editorial:
Gone but not forgotten
Editorial
Those rare instances when a hack loses a judgeship that was procured only by virtue of party loyalty are cause for celebration. Today we cheer the departure from the bench of one such slug, Frank Seddio, who stepped down yesterday just a year and 131 days into what he hoped would be a 14-year term.
Seddio packed it in rather than risk formal removal by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct, which is in the thick of probing his affairs. The agency took an interest in Seddio after this page accused him of violating the canons of ethics regarding the use and misuse of campaign funds.
Based on what we discovered in filings of this former Brooklyn Democratic assemblyman, we predicted that "Seddio could go down as having had one of the shortest judgeships in New York history." How true, how true. Pardon our gloating.
Now that he's gone, it's worth retelling the story of Seddio's rise and fall because it is so revealing of the disgraceful way judges are made in New York. From time immemorial, Brooklyn has been served by one surrogate judge, who handles wills and estates and is a patronage font for the party machine. And, in fact, Brooklyn needs only one such judge.
But, from out of nowhere in the final moments of the 2005 legislative session, then-Gov. George Pataki, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno rushed through a big judge-making deal giving posts to the Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx Democrats, as well as to GOP leaders upstate.
The Brooklyn machine - and not the voters - was given the power to select the new surrogate. Assemblyman Joe Lentol was their pick, but he had the good sense in the end to decline. Next up was Seddio, a longtime party man whose Assembly bio depicted him as "best known for his elaborate Christmas display that surrounds his home each year, which is visited by thousands."
Seddio's only judicial experience had been as a judge of the Queen of Coney Island beauty pageant, but he was a lawyer - and he had $50,000 in campaign funds to spread around. Which he did. Which was against the rules. As we pointed out.
Incorrigible to the end, Seddio wrote in his resignation letter: "It is my hope that during my tenure I have been able to improve the image of the court." Good grief.

This is great!! I had missed Saturday's Daily News.
I'm going to contact them and urge them to keep up the good work. We must STOP the statewide corruption in our courts!!

I live in Westchester where the Journal News NEVER reports on the corruption in the White Plains courts. They would rather report on other things like apple pie recipes and the weather.
Why doesn't the Journal News report on the outcry over court corruption from Westchesterites?
Let's see - that makes two Surrogate Judges "removed" in Brooklyn - good for them, it's about time! Why doesn't someone cleanout all the other Surrogate's Courts throughout New York State! Throw the bums out! Bravo to the Daily News for the work they have done in this regard.
It strangely appears that it is simply not safe to die in New York State, especially in Westchester County !! Holy Cow !!!
You have to see this week's Westchester Guardian newspaper. One big story describes how the Carvel estate has been going on for 17 years!! 17 years!!?!?!?!?!?!
Believe it or not, the Carvel estate is NOT the longest on-going estate in Westchester County!!!! I will email details. The Westchester Surrogate's Court needs to be SHUT DOWN !!!! What a bunch of thugs!!! Or, as the Daily News would call them: SLUGS !!!
Brooklyn had a new Surrogate called Frank Seddio?! I never heard of him but I join the Daily News in wishing him good riddence. Sadly, though, I'm sure he'll re-appear somewhere.... like a rat, crawling out of the gutter once again....heaven help us !!
The Surrogate Judges are whores at the honey pot - other peoples hard earned money.
Hey daily news, come on, investigate westchester!!!
When is the Daily News coming to the burbs? Westchester is nice this time of year (except for the corruption, of course...)
This whore did the right thing. When will Scarpino do the same?
This bum should have his name up in lights for getting out. Now what really made him do it? Did someone whisper in his ear?
Leave it to the Daily News to do the right thing. We need more coverage like this.
please don't be fooled by FHAU....she is with you to lure you into a confidence that will never happen with an employee of OCA. they are trying to distract you from the hidden corruptions...i think you know this, but i have investigated OCA for 18 yrs, was employeed for 30 yrs and will tell you straight up....no NY state GOV'T agency will expose or correct itself...stick with the media and FBI~
WE CAN BLOG FOREVER ON THIS SITE OR ANY OTHER, BUT THE SOLUTION IS NOT THE FBI, OR ANY OCA EMPLOYEE!
I BELIEVE THAT WE NEED A FEDERAL WATCHDOG, COMPRISED OF WELL INVESTIGATED STATE TAXPAYERS, MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA AND SOME OF THE ETHICAL STATE EMPLOYEES.( WE CAN FIND THEM HIDING IN THE STATE BATHROOMS TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM THE HACKS). THIS SETUP WOULD BE SIMILAR TO A CONTROL BOARD AND THEY WOULD EXAMINE ALL OPERATIONS. THE BOARD WOULD HAVE THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS AND PAID WORKERS, IT NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REVIEW OF ANY AND ALL ACTIVITIES THE STATE DEEMED NECESSARY.
NO ONE AGENCY OR GROUP WILL EVER BE ABLE TO CLEAN UP OR BEGIN TO ACCOMPLISH AN ETHICAL OR PEOPLE ORIENTED STATE GOVERNMENT! THIS OPERATION MUST INCLUDE THE REAL PEOPLE AND THOSE THAT CAN REPORT ON ANY CORRUPT ACTIVITIES. THIS IS JUST MY INPUT AFTER HAVING WORKED IN STATE GOVERNMENT FOR 30 YRS AND HATING ALMOST EVERY DAY, WATCHING THE JUNKYARD DOGS DEVOUR EVERY BIT OF STATE PROPERTY!
