EXCLUSIVE: Chief Judge Theodore T. Jones, Jr.

Paterson's Pick Brings Hope: New Chief Judge will be Theodore T. Jones, Jr.

It's confirmed. New York Governor David A. Paterson has decided that current Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, Theodore T. Jones, Jr., will be the next Chief Judge of New York State.

"Nothing will change Dave's mind on who will be the next Chief Judge of this state," says our source, and who asked that she not be identified, adding, "Judge Jones is highly respected and a man of unquestioned integrity."

When asked whether Gov. Paterson knew the depth of the corruption within the state court system, the source avoided the question, "Governor Paterson wants decisive change and he is determined to restore the faith of the people in their government and court system." Asked again if the Governor had knowledge of how severely corrupt the state court system had become, our source became a bit testy, "Listen, Dave knows more legal jokes than most people, but the point is that this Governor is committed to cleaning up the mess at all levels of OCA, all while simultaneously securing hefty and deserved judicial pay increases. Dave knows how important this decision is and that's why we'll have a trusted leader like Justice Jones to bring the changes needed at all levels of the court system."

But we pressed again about whether our Governor was aware of how much of a cesspool our court system had become, and before a odd telephone line disconnection we heard, "Dave knows that if he doesn't insure top-to-bottom change in the state's courts, he might as well endorse Rudy Giuliani in the next election."

Background on New York State Chief Judge Theodore T. Jones, Jr.

Justice Jones is currently an Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals. Previously, he served as a Supreme Court Justice for the Second Judicial Department and Administrative Judge of the Civil Term of Supreme Court in Kings County. Soon-to-be Chief Judge Jones was first elected to Supreme Court in 1989, and was re-elected in 2003. While on the bench, Justice Jones has served as both a Criminal Term judge and a Civil Term judge.
Justice Jones was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Hampton University and St. John’s University School of Law. He served on active duty with the United States Army, and was in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Before being elected to the Supreme Court, Justice Jones worked as a criminal defense attorney for the Legal Aid Society, a Law Secretary for Judge Howard A. Jones of the New York State Court of Claims, and as a private practitioner. Justice Jones lives in New City with his wife, Joan. They have two grown children, Wesley and Theodore.

Recently, Integrity in the Courts and ExposeCorruptCourts.blogspot.com asked Governor Paterson to appoint Brooklyn Surrogate Judge Margarita Lopez Torres as New York's next Chief Judge. Judge Lopez Torres confirmed last week that she had been contacted to submit an application to the state's Judicial Nomination Committee, but that she had declined, indicating that she still had important work before her in Brooklyn's Surrogate Court.

Judge Jones is a great choice. And while a circus clown would have been a better choice than Jonathan Lippman, the Governor really picked someone who knows all the bad stuff, and who has the ability and leadership skills to actually make a difference. My prayers are with Judge Jones, and my heartfelt thanks go to Governor David Paterson!

What I like most is that the decision has been made. Period. Cast in stone. Good for Governor Paterson. He knows that the system is corrupt and that even the procedures of the judicial nomination committee are corrupt, arranged so that the governor can only pick from a tainted list put together by a bunch of political hacks. But justice has prevailed for the first time in a very, very long time. Judge Jones got on the list, and even the politically placed hacks couldn't manage to do anything to this honorable man Jones. Oh, oh. I love it. Now let's change the way judges are picked.

I am proud to be union, and proud of my Governor's decision to go with Judge Jones. Jones was the Brooklyn judge that heard the transit strike in 2005 in which he fined the Transport Workers Union $2.5 million for violating the state’s Taylor Law that prohibits public employees from striking. In these tough times, all members need to participate in making sacrifices-- especially for a children's future. He'll be a honest chief judge for ALL the people, and for all future generations.

The overflowing toilet that is the New York court system should be immediately shut down until Chief Judge Theodore Jones, Jr. is officially sworn in. Just lock the doors and put up a sign, "Justice Coming Soon - Check back in January"

Wow..God Bless Chief Jones, because only the Lord really knows how much he has to do to clean up the Court system. He's going to have his hands full.

Let's see if Paterson has the balls to say, "Yup, I'm proud to tell you that Theodore Jones will the next chief judge of the state of new york."

Come on, David, give all New Yorkers something to really be thankful for this Thursday, and the bonus: sticking it to turkeys: Shelly and Lippman- the ones who think they own the system.

Pay back's a bitch, huh, girls?

I am a victim of family court corruption, and my family has been destroyed because of it.

Teddy Jones lives in Rockland County. I've seen him around, though not in a while. Seems like a nice guy. Since I had the horror of dealing with the Rockland County courts in the 9th judicial district under the confirmed criminal administrative judge nicolai, I'm wondering if Jones will finally throw Frank Nicolai in jail where he belongs. I've read stories about Nicolai on this blog, but you don't know even a small percentage. I worked under that bastard.

Toss the blankets around all OCA courts...I believe the will be shaking in their shorts and skirts today.
The real truth can now come out and be "addressed" and I will be one to submit some nasty allegations and events, with proof!
Run John Sullivan,,,,,,Run!

A brother. See me smile. I feel like shouting "It's black time!" But I won't. This is not a race thing-it's about a fair court system for all people. One of my white friends who had been screwed by OCA insiders told me no one, not even whites, have been treated fairly over at least the last 10 years. Change (real change) is good. Sorry, I can't help it- IT'S BLACK TIME!

i know a lot first hand about Family Court abuse and corruption as well as some Rockland county ties for the other person who posted here. Anyone who would like to share info and work together write to changenow007@gmail.com or changecourtsnow@gmail.com.

Next, hold the worst judges who have violated the law accountable. Throw them off the bench and put them in jail. And with the money saved from their salaries, spread the dollars around to the honest judges who deserve more money.

I am white and cannot think of anything that sounds better than 'Chief Judge Theodore Jones'. Let's not make this a race thing. Judge Jones needs to make some real changes in the 9th judicial district- send Nicolai to clean toilets in Dutchess County, do not under any circumstances appoint Anthony Scarpino to be the administrative judge (because he is one of the most corrupt judges around), and get rid of Ann Pfau, who has become Jonathan Lippman's puppy. Might as well send Lippman to Manhattan's pee court.

Hear that sound coming from the DDC? Its the sound of pants being soiled and paper being shredded.

Allan Friedberg and Sherry Cohen are booking tickets to Dubai.

Oh happy day when these schoolyard bullies get a taste of justice they've deprived us of.

Bravo Dave Paterson and Theo Jones!

While you are throwing out trash administrative and regular judges, how about dumping and jailing the criminal "judge" Plumadore, and replacing him with an appeals court judge from upstate NY...Judge Piggot....as the judge who deals with courts outside of NYC.

We ALWAYS have a judge from" downstate' dealing with the 2 largest districts upstate, outside of NYC...the 7th and 8th, and these judicial selections just condone low class and bottom level administrative judges, to supervise the application of law and justice for a slew of citizens.

These clown district judges, have not studied the law, since law school 30 yrs ago...and who is to say they did it back then!

This is the first place to look upstate, to fire these money grubbing, legal midget losers and give the unfortunate taxpayer, what they deserve...a real legal person named "judge", with actual ethics and integrity!

Dump these beasts of greed and corruption in the upstate districts, Chief Judge Jones. Read the lawsuits filed against OCA and interview the plaintiffs, to view what horror went on during the Kaye reign of terror, with the proof to confirm!

I hope you are the salvation, this twisted judical system needs.

This Thanksgiving be sure to also voice your thanks to prostitutes everywhere. If it wasn't for a hooker dingling Eliot, we'd still have Spitzer making believe he cared, and we'd be facing the likely appointment of Chief Presiding Hack Jonathan Lippman as the next chief judge. God bless whores everywhere! Speaking of whores, when are the state's lawmakers going to get our judges the raise they deserve?

I have worked for OCA for over 25 years and I've seen everything! Nothing moves me, but I got chills when I heard that Ted Jones would lead OCA into the future. It is a move long overdue.

Chief Judge Jones needs to have numerous public hearings ALL OVER THE STATE where OCA workers, attorneys and everyday people can make serious suggestions as to what needs to be changed so the court system works better, in the interest of justice, and for ALL people. PUT IT ON TV AND THE INTERNET! He should drag the state law makers to every hearing since they are the ones who have put the politically crazy regulations and procedures on the books. CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE that's what we need and WE NEED IT NOW

Paterson's a smart guy. He knows how to play the game with the idiots involved. He's made his choice and now he'll go through the motions. He'll take the list of 7 from the make believe nomination committee on Dec 1st. He'll carefully review all of the candidates (this is where being blind comes in handy) and he'll weigh all the people (hopefully in the dark over a few well-deserved bottles of fine wine) and then BOOM, he'll make his decision known. Bottom line: Dave starts making his mark on this state's sad court system. And with the help of a great man, one Ted Jones ! I LOVE IT.

Not a second too soon. But the feds still need to be called in! The state, and this guy Jones, will need the help of federal agents to fully round up the large quantity of OCA animals that have sucked the well of decency dry.

Good point regarding Plumadore- get rid of this one also! And can someone please tell me who John Sullivan is related to? And how and the hell did the 9th JD AJ not get prosecuted when he pinched the ass of a court reporter the year before last? There are many, many sad questions; maybe the answer in Ted Jones.

Anonymous said...

Which 'John Sullivan'? There is more than one that works for the courts.

Anonymous said...

John Sullivan works in OCA'S counsel's office and holds a top position, and orchestrates and manipulates attacks on anyone who dares to cross or expose OCA!
Sullivan is the go to guy for a lot of OCA judges and personnel, who are corrupt and need to know how to continue with the courts permission, to twist and subvert the law, as they get the nod to commit crimes against those individuals.
He is very nerdy and rather frumpy, but very vicious! He could look like your dorky brother, but I believe he is the symbol of the mob within OCA!
Don't no who he is related to, but he has been around since the early 90's or before!

Judge Jones would be wise to gather a bunch of fourth graders or a few paper boys/girls. Ask them how they'd fix the dysfunctional procedures that is the NYS court system.

This looked interesting. Is it any wonder people want to avoid lawyers?

If we don't see real change in New York (and not an Obama-type-no-change/rehash) and, further, a real clean up and massive correction of the NY legal system, I suspect that we will see increasing protests up until such time that the current Governor is permanently run out of Albany by very angry crowds. Please, Dave, do the right thing for all New Yorkers, and really, really see to it that we see a clean up and positive changes throughout OCA. I hope it's correct that you'll be picking Ted Jones shortly after December 1.

This appointment is perhaps the most important decision that Governor Paterson will make in his tenure, and it is the acid test of his independence and commitment to justice.

Whoever is the appointee, he or she will be for all intents and purposes independent of the Executive's influence, so great discernment is required.

If Lippman is appointed, then Paterson is either far stupider than he appears, or he is a puppet of the Pataki/ Kaye mob that pulls the strings in this cesspool of a state.

Paterson's choice of Chief Judge will save or sink New York. One criminal can only commit so many crimes, but a corrupt Judiciary creates a medium in which crime will thrive like a deadly infection.

Look at the plague Judge Kaye has spawned.

Gov. Paterson. Our fate is your hands.
