Disgraced Ex-Chief Judge Wachtler Regains Law License...(CLICK HERE FOR FULL STORY)

The New York Law Journal reports that New York's former top judge got his law license back. How fitting that he received it one day before the United States Supreme Court would hear oral arguments on New York's fraudulent elections.   And perhaps even more fitting is Sol Wachtler's license reinstatement the day following the official birth of Tammy Two (Tammany Hall II)...MORE...

As Cindy Adams says, "only in New York..." We remind you to pass out the cigars for the birth of Tammany Hall II - As we announced late Sunday night, the official birth of Tammany Two is Monday, October 1, 2007. Not a very proud day, but surely necessary.  The corruption within and around the New York State court system, and the startling lack of oversight and accountability, has given official birth to a corruption scandal that would make Boss Tweed blush.

Here's The New York Law Journal article:

Disgraced Ex-Chief Judge Is Readmitted to NY Bar

Sol Wachtler, the former chief judge of the Court of Appeals, has been reinstated to practice law in New York by a unanimous Appellate Division, Second Department, panel.

"I'm delighted," Sol Wachtler said after his license was reinstated Tuesday. The former judge had told the panel he hoped to do legal work for poor and mentally ill clients.

In a simple, one-page decision, the panel granted the motion filed by Mr. Wachtler, 77, who served on the Court of Appeals from 1972 until three days after his arrest in 1992 for harassing his ex-girlfriend, Joy Silverman. The former chief judge later admitted engaging in a 13-month campaign of hang-up calls and anonymous, obscene letters intended to force Ms. Silverman to turn to him for help. According to news reports, he suffered from drug-induced bipolar disorder.

He ultimately pleaded guilty in New Jersey federal court and resigned from the bar. The Second Department accepted the resignation, disbarring him on Aug. 5, 1993.

In 2003, a Second Department panel rejected his first application for reinstatement.

In a decision made public yesterday, his second application was granted.

Mr. Wachtler's attorney, whose name is under seal, along with other material related to the application for reinstatement, did not return a call for comment.

Presently, Mr. Wachtler serves as an adjunct professor at Touro Law School.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Just so everyone knows, you can do ANYTHING in New York and get away with it....if you know the right people. And yes, judges can get away with anything at any time.....held to a higher standard-baloney. Wackey-ler should have just faded away.... who's the secret lawyer he had---- I want to know !!! (maybe Eliot Spitzer, or Bruno, Lippman ?)

Very bad example. now they can just shut down the lawyer and judge's ethics' committees. Why waste the money--- they are a joke.

Didn't this slug dress up in differnt costumes, one being a cowboy or investigator, even when they found him, and then stab himself when sentenced to jail and stated it was another inmate?
you are right..only in new york do we give a lawyer back his right to practice law, so he can earn income forever, because this state is saturated and operated by lawyers. wow....i already know the filthy deeds of the judicial system from years of personal abuse and intense investigation, but i never thought i would see wackler practice again! maybe the bar assoc. could look at that...they are always ready to police their own. i am still laughing in anger....call back that old knife weilding prisoner...i am sure his axe to grind with cookoo still exists!

The little faith in any oversight concerning the court, judges and lawyers has now been destroyed....

Whacky Wachler scores big time.....wonder what it cost him? or maybe he had enough on the other members of the oldest professional that they had to do the "right" thing.

It is a sad, sad day for the legal community that the felon Sol Wachler gets a license to practice law. How did he get a Certificate of Relief and from whom? This is a scandal.
